Colle della Fumana
Colle della Fumana, an integral part of the Villa Della Torre estate for centuries, gave the village of Fumane its name. The name derives from the local dialect word fumana, used to describe the banks of mist that once filled the valley. According to research by the Documentation Centre for the History of Valpolicella, a medieval hillfort once stood at the top of the hill. During the Renaissance, the site became an agricultural supply area for the Della Torre family. This evidence made it possible to revive the hill's agricultural vocation and restore vine cultivation while respecting the original landscape design. Planted to Guyot from 2018 onwards, the vineyard lies within a landscape where vine rows alternate with spontaneous vegetation, including oaks and cypresses. The soils are stony, low in organic matter and rich in limestone; the main varieties grown are Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella.
In 2025, the “Trails of Colle della Fumana” project was launched to enhance the area's environmental and landscape heritage. The initiative includes restoring vegetation through hydroseeding, creating buffer zones to protect natural areas and establishing two educational nature trails devoted to biodiversity, the vineyard landscape and the history of the hill. The two trails guide visitors through vineyards and wild plants, offering an authentic interpretation of the place and its landscape. An invitation to walk, observe and rediscover the profound bond between people and the environment.
