Lugana Selva del Vescovo

Lugana

Lugana D.O.C.

100% Turbiana

The Lugana by Villa Della Torre is a wine that is at once cheerful and light, but also structured and deep. Our interpretation aims to enhance the characteristics that combine freshness with complexity due to aging on the fine lees for a period of 6 months. In the glass, the wine is bright yellow with golden nuances. The nose is reminiscent of a burst of white flowers, citrus fruits and aromatic herbs. On the palate, the savory note and the intense minerality enable a satisfying acidity to emerge, while the persistent finish recalls scents of sweet almond. With evolution in the bottle, it will take on the added complexities that only wines of great character can offer.

Climate trend

The 2019 vintage brought us back to a more ‘classic’ calendar than those of recent years. Overall, the seasonal development was characterized by a mild winter with little rain. Both December and early January recorded unusual temperatures of around 10°C. Between the end of March and early April, vegetative recovery of the vine began. The heavy rains that occurred in May caused temperature swings and contributed to slow vegetative development of the vines. The summer saw some very hot days interspersed with periods when temperatures never exceeded 30°C. Rainfall at the end of August, although not intense, encouraged continuous temperature fluctuations that were beneficial for the steady but slow ripening of the grapes, with a good accumulation of polyphenols and anthocyanins and excellent development of aromas.

The resulting wines exhibit excellent elegance and finesse.

Food pairings

This is an appetizer wine par excellence but it also pairs well with lake and sea fish dishes, savory pies made with ricotta and wild herbs, as well as roasted, grilled, and spit-roasted white meats. Our Lugana by Villa Della Torre is also a perfect match with the most important and creative dishes of various Oriental cuisines.

Recommended serving temperature: 50-54°F in a large tulip-shaped glass.
